British Expat Becomes Costa Blanca Mayor |
A British expat has “accidentally” become the mayor of San Fulgencio on the Costa Blanca after a property development scandal hit the town.
Mark Lewis, was made mayor after the former mayor and all his deputies were arrested after Spanish media broadcasted them allegedly accepting a £3900 bribe from a property developer.
Mr Lewis told The Daily Telegraph, "It's only temporary I hope. I'm sure this will all be sorted out very quickly and everything will return to normal."
Former Deputy Mayor, Manuel Barrera Garcia, denies any wrongdoing and claims he was framed by his political rivals. Mr Barrera said, “"I am completely innocent. The video was manipulated to make it look like I accepted a bribe.”
