| 10 Places to See Before you Die |
|
So many places to see…so little time to see them all. There are some breathtaking landmarks and buildings that you have to see before you die. Here are our ten favourite places that everybody should try to visit Grand Canyon
This spectacular location will make your jaw drop while you look
around in astonishment at the awe-inspiring views. The Grand Canyon
stretches nearly 280 miles from end-to-end. If you’re ever near Arizona
and don’t go to see this site then you’re missing out on one of the
best views you’re ever likely to see. The Pyramids of Giza
The only surviving original wonders of the world, and for that reason
alone you need to visit this place once. The pyramids are now a UNESCO
World Heritage Site. Expect to be see walls of tourists on your visit,
but don’t let those clicking cameras put you off seeing these superb
constructions. You’ll gaze in wonder and ask yourself just how they
managed to build them. Great Wall of China
Probably the most famous wall ever built, The Great Wall of China lives
up to its name by stretching out over 4,000 miles. While you probably
won’t get to see it all in one trip – but if you thought looking at
walls would be boring then this is certainly one exception to the rule. Angkor Wat
Built in the 12th century the Angkor Wat temple is so unique looking
that this is one visit you’ll never forget. It’s not just the scale of
the building that is so impressive either, you could spend hours just
looking at the detailed decorations around the temple. Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It took 22 years
to build and was completed in 1648. Each year 2-3 m people visit the
site. Again, this might be a tourist hotspot, but it another building
that you should really see in person at some point in your life. The Great Barrier Reef
If you’re at all interested in sea life then this is the place to come. The Great Barrier reef is home to some of the most fanstastic sea life and colours you’re ever likely to get up close to. Machu Picchu
“The Lost City of the Incas” is one of the new 7 wonders of the world. Built around 1460, it was said to be forgotten until 1911 when American historian, Hiram Bingham brought worldwide attention to the site after he rediscovered it. The outstanding views of the surrounding landscapes will leave you in awe. Eiffel Tower
While the Eiffel Tower isn’t perhaps as spectacular as some of the
other sites on our list – it is an iconic landmark of the modern era
and one of the most recognisable in Europe. Weighing around 10,000 tons
it is a truly amazing feat of engineering. Colosseum, Rome
This ancient theatre was once the home of gladiatorial battles and
executions, although, thankfully it is now filled with tourists rather
than bloody battles. The construction of the Colosseum was finished in
80AD so that gives you some indication of how well it was built as it
still stands in Rome today. The Acropolis
The Acropolis offers truly amazing views of Athen. Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus and the Parthenon offer a glimpse into what it must have been like to live in Ancient Greece.
